Terrain Alert Questions:
|
- How does the Terrain Alert Work ? Whenever you fly within 8 minutes of any terrain or towers within 500 feet of your altitude you receive an automatic Alert symbol. The symbol will either be an terrain alert symbol as shown to the left or a tower alert as shown below.
- How can you tell the difference between Terrain alert and Radar images ? Terrain Alert altitudes are in solid colors, NexRad radar images are displayed in a dotted pattern.

Controlled flight into terrain has been a major cause of accidents since the beginning of flight. Flight Cheetah FL270 automatically monitors your altitude in relation to the terrain elevation. When you are within 8 minutes of any terrain conflict with your current altitude a terrain alert symbol is immediately displayed. You can see terrain elevation in relation to your current altitude -- green indicates terrain 1,000-1,500 feet below your current altitude, yellow means terrain is 500 feet to 1,000 feet below you, and red is for 500 feet below to anything above.
